NEWS, THOUGHTS,
AND
UPDATES
March 31, 2010
I'll be heading off
to the UK in May to do a little climate research with my friends Barbarina
and Jane Heyerdahl. This is the beginning of my Great Plan to ramble
the world to climatically-relevant places and create travelogues about my
trips and the people I meet.
No name for this
Grand Scheme yet. Perhaps it's just all part of the Flight
series. We'll see how it goes.

We had a great time
at Earth Hour last night, plus a surprise visit from Senator Bernie Sanders!
Thanks Bernie!
Also, check out my new wedding
website. It's
still in progress, but getting pretty!
Finally, coming up soon,
The Boycott at Shelburne Town
Hall. A benefit for our friends at
350.org, it's sponsored by the Lake Champlain Waldorf High School
environmental club.

Vermont Stage Company for making this
possible.

Happy New Year!
I'm writing hard for the premiere of my new solo show, Flight, about
my trip to Copenhagen. It was commissioned by the
Vermont Arts Council as part of
their project
The Art of Action, and will be going up at, of all places, the airport
on Saturday, January 9. This performances is sponsored by
Candles and Creations.

While I'm in
Copenhagen, I'll be blogging about my experiences at
BlumeTimes! So come
on down!

I'm gearing up to
take my solo show The Boycott to
Copenhagen for the climate talks in December. I'll be performing at
Klimaforum09 on Thursday, December
10, 8pm at DGI-Byen, Red Hall.
I'll also be helping support the hunger
strikers of Climate Justice
Fast! They're a brave group of souls undertaking a long term
hunger strike to bring awareness to the climate crisis.
When I get back, I'll be doing a new solo
piece about my trip called Flight. I'll be performing it
Saturday, January 9, 7pm, at the Burlington International Airport.
It's part of the Vermont Arts Council's project
The Art of Action. The performance is sponsored by
Candles & Creations.
Thanks ladies!
I'm also performing The Boycott at
Vermont Commons School
Thursday, January 14. More info on that soon.
Finally, I'm already starting to book
weddings for 2010. So book your wedding
with me soon!

I'm working on a
very exciting project - the Vermont 350 Dance Party. It's part of
350.org's international day of climate
action.
We're having a concert at
Higher Ground with 2 great
dance bands - Spiritual Rez and
Barefoot Truth.
Then the concert is getting simulcast
on line and on cable so that people all around the state (and world) can
have their own parties with the live feed from Higher Ground.
For more info, including finding a
dance party or hosting your own, please visit our
website.

I'm volunteering on
the PR team for Climate
Justice Fast, an international hunger strike taking place from
November 2 through to the UN climate negotiations in Copenhagen in
December.
The fasters are a
group of incredibly committed, engaged people from all over the world, and
I'm honored to be helping out.

When asked if I am pessimistic or optimistic about the future, my answer
is always the same: If you look at the science about what is happening on
earth and aren’t pessimistic, you don’t understand the data. But if you
meet the people who are working to restore this earth and the lives of the
poor, and you aren’t optimistic, you haven’t got a pulse.

If there is a future wave of wellness on this planet, of harmony, of
peace, of an end to war, of mutual understanding, of equality, of
fairness, I don't expect it will come from a government, a military force
or a corporation. I no longer even expect it to come from the religions of
the world, which together seem to have brought us as much war as they have
peace. If there is a future of peace for humankind, if there is to be an
understanding of how these invisible, internal things should fit together,
I expect it will come from the artists, because that's what we do.

Conservatory

I was asked by the
Howard Center - a social services
organization in Burlington - to deliver the keynote address at their
annual fundraiser tonight. For those of you who can't make it,
here it is!
